and Associates
Founded by Whitfield Reaves, who has been the clinical practice of orthopedic and acupuncture sports medicine since 1981, with 30 years of experience. Chad Bong, the newest associate in the clinic Boulder Acupuncture Sports Medicine, brings over a decade of experience in exercise physiology and the science of sports medicine, training, and fitness.
Whitfield Reaves, OMD, LAc, is a nationally certified acupuncturist, and has been in clinical practice since 1981. He received his Doctor of Oriental Medicine degree in 1983, which included a four-month internship in Beijing, China. His thesis, titled "Acupuncture and the treatment of common running injuries”, was one of the first-ever English language works integrating traditional Chinese acupuncture with western orthopedic and sports medicine. Whitfield’s clinical experience includes medical care for athletes at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, as well as numerous track and field, triathlon, skiing, and cycling events nationally over the last 25 years.
Whitfield Reaves is the author of The Acupuncture Handbook of Sports Injuries and Pain, published in 2009. His book is the compilation of over two decades of clinical experience treating competitive athletes, and utilizing acupuncture in the treatment of injury and pain. While The Acupuncture Handbook has valuable information on diagnosis and assessment of common sports injuries, it is primarily designed for licensed health care practitioners. Whitfield’s book has been well received by the acupuncture profession, is used as a text at some of the accredited colleges in North America, and has earned very high reviews by his peers.
Whitfield has been in the forefront of the acupuncture sports medicine profession. His lectures, given in the United States, Canada, and Europe, integrate traditional Chinese acupuncture with western orthopedic medicine. He currently lives, teaches, and practices in Boulder, Colorado. His clinic, Boulder Acupuncture Sports Medicine, specializes in the treatment of injury and pain.
