Friends and Colleagues,
I have had a wonderful career – this is my 30th year of practice – of providing medical care for athletes. My son Martin Reaves is a professional slalom skateboard racer (pictured above), which has provided a new and interesting athletic event to understand. And with the gang of teenage and young adults that I have grown to adore, other uniquely American sports such as longboarding, the skate park, and the half pipe have developed. And there is always the more traditional athletes, such as runners, triathletes, or cyclists, each of which have their own unique treatment requirements. However, I consider all of us athletes – the mother taking care of her children at home, the office worker, the college student. In this modern era, the intensity to produce and its resultant stress is treated similarly to those of a competitive athlete.

So, in the end, we all have similar and common strengths as well as weaknesses. The diagnosis, assessment, and treatment with acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine is a wonderful and effective approach for many of these imbalances. I love this medicine more now than when I first began my studies in 1976. I feel fortunate and grateful for the teachers, athletes, and other patients that have taught me everything I know.

All the best to you, and stay healthy,

Whitfield Reaves
